Experience the timeless beauty of Lake Nasser aboard the M/S Mövenpick Prince Abbas, combining comfortable accommodation, excellent service, and unforgettable visits to the magnificent ancient temples of Nubia and Abu Simbel.

Overview

The Mövenpick Prince Abbas is one of the small handful of vessels cruising Lake Nasser, the vast man-made lake south of the Aswan High Dam, where the shoreline is empty desert and the temples appear one by one out of the water and the light. Where the Nile between Luxor and Aswan is busy with traffic and river towns, Lake Nasser is silence, open horizon, and Nubia’s rescued monuments — Kalabsha, Wadi El Seboua, Amada, Qasr Ibrim, and finally Abu Simbel, seen from the deck at dawn rather than from a coach park.

Built in the style of a classic river steamer and operated to Mövenpick’s five-star standard, the ship carries just 65 cabins and suites across its decks — panoramic windows in every room, so the landscape is with you from the moment you wake. Onboard there’s a main restaurant serving international and Egyptian cuisine, a lounge bar, a poolside bar, an outdoor swimming pool, a sundeck built for long afternoons of watching the shore go past, a spa with massage treatments, a fitness area, gift shop and library.

Itineraries run in two directions: four nights from Aswan, and three nights from Abu Simbel, with guided excursions to the Nubian temples included on both. It is an unhurried, small-scale, deeply atmospheric way to see a part of Egypt most visitors never reach.

Return on board as the ship casts off for Wadi El Seboua, and enjoy lunch as the desert shoreline drifts past. Afternoon tea is served on deck. Disembark in the morning to explore the temples of Wadi El Seboua — the “Valley of the Lions,” named for the avenue of sphinxes leading to Ramses II’s sandstone temple — together with the neighbouring temples of Dakka and Maharraka, relocated to the same site. Return aboard for the sail to Amada, with lunch served en route. In the afternoon, visit the Temple of Amada, the oldest surviving monument on Lake Nasser, the rock-cut Temple of Derr and the beautifully preserved Tomb of Pennut. Thursday: Kasr Ibrim and Abu Simbel

Sail at first light towards Kasr Ibrim, the only monument on the lake still standing on its original ground. The ship pauses alongside the fortress for photographs from the sun deck — landing is not permitted, and the view from the water is a privilege reserved for Lake Nasser cruise passengers. Continuing south, the ship approaches Abu Simbel for a panoramic view of the two temples from the sun deck, seen from the water as the ancient Nile travellers once saw them. Later, go ashore to visit the Great Temple of Ramses II and the Temple of Hathor and Nefertari in full. In the evening, an optional visit to the Abu Simbel Sound and Light Show is available. Overnight at Abu Simbel.

Friday: Arrival & Abu Simbel

Our representative will meet and assist you on arrival before transferring you to the pier to embark the M/S Mövenpick Prince Abbas. After completing check-in formalities and settling into your cabin, lunch is served on board as the vessel lies at anchor within view of Abu Simbel.

In the afternoon, visit the magnificent Temples of Abu Simbel — the Great Temple of Ramses II with its four colossal seated statues, and the neighbouring Temple of Hathor dedicated to Queen Nefertari. Both monuments were relocated stone by stone during the 1960s in one of the greatest rescue operations in archaeological history.

Return on board for afternoon tea. In the evening, an optional visit to the Abu Simbel Sound & Light Show is available, where the temple façades come alive with light and narration against the desert night. Dinner is served on board.
